Frequently Asked Questions

Bridge Child Contact Centre is a registered UK charity which provides supported contact to separated families in Hull and East Yorkshire.

How much does it cost to attend the contact centre?

We ask the visiting parent to pay £125 as a contribution towards the cost of 12 sessions at the contact centre.

Do I have to meet my former partner?

Not if you do not wish to. Separate waiting areas are available, however you must wait with the child/ children until the visiting partner arrives or the resident partner comes to collect the child.

What do the volunteers do?

The volunteers are there to support the contact, to help the child feel safe & at ease by providing a welcoming, friendly environment. The volunteers are not there to take care of the children. That is the responsibility of the parent or visiting party.

Are the volunteers trained and checked by the Criminal Records Bureau?

Yes. The volunteers are fully trained and are subject to Enhanced CRB checks.

What happens if I cannot make it to the centre?

Let the visiting person know if possible, and contact the centre coordinator in advance.

Is the building secure?

Yes. Both the indoor & outdoor play areas are secure.

Do the volunteers monitor any conversations?

No. We do not monitor conversations or write any reports on the contact taking place. The Centre is impartial and the volunteers are solely there to support the contact and ensure the children’s wellbeing.

Do contact centres report to the Court?

Please refer to the NACCC – National Association of Child Contact Centres website and to the information provided within the judicial protocol which states the following:

Most Supported Child Contact Centres are charities and nearly all the staff are volunteers. All Supported Child Contact Centres must be able to decide whether to accept or refuse a referral. Similarly, they can only undertake their work if free of any risk of being drawn into individual cases or disputes. Accordingly, courts and parties will not require or seek their involvement in resolving disputes, writing reports, noting events, or attending, in any capacity, any family court hearing.

How quickly can I get a contact session set up?

This varies. Some Centres may have waiting lists and some centres may not be able to accommodate you at all as not all centres offer the same services. Before your first session can be arranged, you will have to fill out a form and be assessed. This is likely to take a minimum of 4 weeks. If you have a particular timescale in mind or things are urgent, please ring the centre first to make sure they can help, before starting the process.
